Septmebr 11, 2001

Concerning the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 -- The Tri-State Unity Coalitation mourns those who lost their lives, were injured or are missing. We extend our sympathy to the families of those involved and hope they will find peace.

These atrocities have forever changed the lives of all Americans and, indeed, most people throughout the world. As the nation begins to understand how our lives have changed, we urge everyone in our community to unite and display the courage and spirit of our great nation. We are a nation of diverse people and it is this diversity that has been the source of our strength.

Religious and ethnic ignorance and hatred were at the core of these tragic events. As people, even in our own community, react emotionally to these events, there have been incidences of hatred against people of middle-eastern descent because it is believed that this is the origin of the terrorist group(s) involved. We implore our fellow neighbors to demonstrate the exceptional character of the American spirit and refrain from blaming these tragic events on all middle-easterners. Lets us embrace our diversity as a nation and show our children and the world that in a democracy, all people are free!

It says, "Peace be upon you."

In fact, the word Islam comes from salaam, meaning peace.
And despite the unspeakable crimes of some, we want you to know that peace,
love and human kindness are the true teachings of our faith.

As Muslim Americans, we are horrified and angered by Tuesday's tragic attack
against our home. Like other Americans.

Amd we feel the same sense of helplessness as we wonder if our friends,
relatives, neighbors who live and work in Washington and New York are safe.
Like other Americans.

We want those responsible brought to justice. We grieve for those lost.
We fear for our children.

And like you.

we pray humbly and simply for peace.
